ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
With the rise of the internet, dating has shifted in unprecedented ways from the real world to the digital world. Today, the online dating market is massive: 1 in 3 French people were registered on a site in 2020! While there are many platforms and apps, they all share a common step required to access them: creating a profile. Users must design a sort of “showcase” of themselves intended to foster connections with others. What are the strategies
used to present oneself? What should be shared or kept private? Which photos should be chosen? Is a profile merely a presentation, or is it already a representation of the self? By analyzing research in information and communication sciences as well as in
sociology, we will explore the challenges and logic behind the construction of digital identity in the context of courtship.
