The lecture "Models in Physics: Epidemics and Energy," presented by Laurent GALLOT, CNRS research fellow at the Annecy Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (LAPTH), UFR Sciences et Montagne, will take place on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 6 p.m. at the Presidency of the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, 27 rue Marcoz, 73000 Chambéry
It will also be held:
- Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in Annecy
- Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in Archamps
The conferences will take place subject to the health conditions related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic and in compliance with the safety guidelines in force at the venue hosting the event.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the importance of epidemiological models, which are simplified mathematical representations of real-world phenomena. How is a scientific model developed? How reliable is it? These questions are illustrated by the simplest of epidemiological models, the SIR (Susceptible Infected Recovered) model, used to think rationally about the pandemic and counter false information. Incidentally, the same model also describes the extraction of a non-renewable resource and provides insights into the energy future of our society.
