Amphis Pour Tous – The model in physics: epidemics and energy

December 13, 2022, 6:30 p.m. - December 13, 2022, 6:30 p.m.

The lecture “Models in Physics: Epidemics and Energy, ” presented by Laurent Gallot, a CNRS research fellow at the Annecy Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (LAPTH), Faculty of Sciences and Mountain Studies, will take place on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. at ARCHPARC, Bât. Mont-Blanc 1, 61 rue Antoine Rédier, 74160 Archamps

It will also be held:

  • Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in Annecy
  • Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. in Chambéry

The conferences will take place subject to the health conditions related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic and in compliance with the safety guidelines in force at the venue hosting the event.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of epidemiological models—simplified mathematical representations of real-world phenomena. How is a scientific model developed? How reliable are they? These questions are illustrated by the simplest of epidemiological models, the SIR model (Susceptible, Infected, Recovered), used to rationally analyze the pandemic and counter misinformation. Incidentally, the same model also describes the extraction of a non-renewable resource and offers insights into our society’s energy future.
