The lecture “Models in Physics: Epidemics and Energy,” presented by Laurent Gallot, a CNRS research fellow at the Annecy Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (LAPTH), UFR Sciences et Montagne, will take place on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. at La Turbine (Entrance via La Turbine cinema), rue de l’Arlequin, Cran-Gevrier, 74960 Annecy
It will also be held:
- Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. in Chambéry
- Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in Archamps
The conferences will take place subject to the health conditions related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic and in compliance with the safety guidelines in force at the venue hosting the event.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of epidemiological models—simplified mathematical representations of real-world phenomena. How is a scientific model developed? How reliable are they? These questions are illustrated by the simplest of epidemiological models, the SIR model (Susceptible, Infected, Recovered), used to rationally analyze the pandemic and counter misinformation. Incidentally, the same model also describes the extraction of a non-renewable resource and offers insights into our society’s energy future.
