ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

High-altitude lakes are sensitive ecosystems, recognized for their high cultural and environmental value. Located at the head of watersheds and subject to extreme climatic conditions,
their functioning is still poorly understood. In the French Alps alone, there are nearly 600 high-altitude lakes. Recent studies show that these lakes are not quite the "preserved nature" that is generally attributed to them and are subject to both global and local human influences. High-altitude lakes play a watchdog role with regard to changing environmental conditions such as biodiversity erosion, climate change, and the spread of contaminants. Let's take a tour of high-altitude lakes to better understand their formation, functioning, and future.
