The lecture “Discovering Dark Matter, ” presented by Francesca Calore, aCNRS research fellow atthe Annecy Laboratory of Theoretical Physics(LAPTH), UFR Sciences et Montagne, will take place on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. at La Turbine Sciences in Cran-Gevrier (entrance via Le Cinéma la Turbine), as part of the 2021 Fête de la Science.

It will also be held:

  • Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. in Chambéry (as part of the 2021 Festival of Science)
  • Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. in Archamps

The conferences will take place subject to the health conditions related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic and in compliance with the safety guidelines in force at the venue hosting the event.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The nature of dark matter is one of the great mysteries of modern physics. Dark matter exists, but what is its fundamental nature? The particles that make it up are likely to produce photons and high-energy charged particles at rates detectable by current telescopes. Through so-called indirect searches, scientists hope to detect the flux of stable particles produced by dark matter that exceeds the astrophysical background already present. The discovery of such a signal would allow us to study, for the first time, the properties of the particles that make up dark matter. How are scientists trying to uncover dark matter in the universe? What are the current results and the challenges for the future?
