The lecture“How Do Plants Communicate with Their Environment?”, presented by Geneviève Chiapusio, associate professor atthe Alpine Research Center on Trophic Networks in Limnic Ecosystems(CARRTEL),Faculty of Sciences and Mountain Studies, and at the Chrono-Environment Laboratory (University of Franche-Comté),will take place on Friday, March 15, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. at the Thonon-les-Bains Municipal Media Library, located at the Pôle culturel de la Visitation.
It will also take place on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 6:30 p.m. in Albertville (Le Dôme Cinéma, 135 Place de l’Europe).
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Plants, rooted in their substrate, are known to produce a rich variety of chemical molecules that are unique to them. Currently, numerous scientific studies are seeking to unlock the secrets of this chemical language to understand its role in our environment. These molecules enable plants to respond to environmental changes, defend themselves against attacks by parasites or insects, and communicate with other organisms in their surroundings. Thus, mosses interact with other plants and microorganisms in peatlands, aquatic plants interact with one another in lakes, and cultivated plants interact with competing or companion species. This chemical language of plants, present in all ecosystems and agrosystems, is therefore rich and surprising: many fundamental and applied discoveries await us!
