The lecture “From Anorexia to Obesity: A Brain Blind to Major Bodily Changes, ” presented by Morgane Metral, associate professor atthe Inter-University Laboratory of Psychology – Personality, Cognition, Social Change(LIP-PC2S),Facultyof Letters, Languages, and Humanities, will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. in the Mont-Blanc 1 building in Archamps.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Despite significant weight loss and a thin body, people suffering from anorexia nervosa generally feel fatter than they actually are. More surprisingly, they move as if this were actually the case. Despite opposite weight issues, recent studies suggest a parallel between obesity and anorexia nervosa. Indeed, patients suffering from obesity also experience major weight fluctuations, associated with an overestimation of their body size and atypical movements. What are the common dysfunctions that could contribute to the oversizing of body image in these two pathologies? This will lead us to discuss our brain's blindness to major bodily changes.
