ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The digital and energy transitions rely heavily on the use of metals. These demands come on top of the growing strain our economic systems place on the environment. At the same time, two extreme and contradictory viewpoints are emerging in the public sphere.
On the one hand, a doomsday narrative highlights the ecological and energy costs of metals for these transitions and advocates for a way out through degrowth.
On the other hand, others are banking on a successful recovery by focusing on innovation and technological progress, touting the promise of green growth that is decoupled from resource extraction and environmental pollution.
Are we going to run out of metals for transition metals? Is the choice really limited to these two options?
