ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Automated analysis of court decisions, scales, and standardization of justice are leading many companies to offer "predictive justice" tools. For example, in the United States, one company claims to calculate the risk of recidivism in order to determine prison sentences. In France, one company indicates in advance the amount of compensation that can be expected in the event of a personal injury accident. These tools aim to predict the outcome of a trial; they are based on a probability calculation using previous court decisions, betting on the fact that judges will tend to repeat their own decisions. So, if an algorithm can predict the outcome of a dispute, why not replace the judge with a machine? After analyzing technological advances in this area, we will examine their potential, but also their risks and limitations. Isn't "robotized" justice ultimately synonymous with inhuman justice?
