The lecture “Doubting to Understand: The Scientific Method Put to the Test by the Cosmos,” presented by Thierry Souverin and Guillaume Grolleron, faculty members and researchers at the Annecy Laboratory of Particle Physics (LAPP) – UFR Sciences et Montagne, will take place on Tuesday, March 30, 2027, at 6:30 p.m. at the Jeanne d’Arc School Complex, Europe Room, 29 Rue Président Coty, 73200 Albertville.
About the conference
For more than a century, modern astronomy has been exploring the universe using increasingly sophisticated instruments. But how can we trust observations of the sky based on signals detected billions of light-years away?
In science, observation alone is not enough: we must question, verify, and compare. Measurements are repeated, methods are cross-checked, and models are put to the test, until only the most robust results remain.
Through examples from astrophysics, discover how scientific knowledge is built: an essential process for understanding the world and questioning the information around us.
