The lecture “Exploring the Universe Beyond the Visible Using Radio Telescopes,” presented by Yassine Mhiri, a faculty member and researcher at the Laboratory of Computer Science, Systems, Information Processing, and Knowledge (LISTIC) – Polytech Annecy-Chambéry, will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Archparc, Mont Blanc 1 Building, 61 rue Antoine Rédier, 74160 Archamps.
About the conference
Since the invention of the first telescope, astronomers have sought to reduce the final frontier that is the starry sky. However, it was by happy coincidence that in 1931 the first radio telescope paved the way for a new way of observing the sky. One hundred years later, advances in radio telescope technology are enabling us to explore the universe in a unique way.
Thus, in 2016, the first "image" of a black hole was reconstructed using antennas placed around the globe. A new era of exploration is beginning, driven by a new generation of instruments with unprecedented capabilities.
