The lecture “Are We All Energy Addicts? The Hard Road to Energy Sobriety,” presented by Hervé Boileau, a faculty member and researcher at the prOCédés énergIE bâtiment (LOCIE) – Polytech Annecy-Chambéry, will take place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Friche Artistique et Solidaire, 77 allée des artistes, 73700 Bourg Saint Maurice.
About the conference
For a long time, the source of energy was muscle power, either human or animal. Other forms of energy were then harnessed: wind and river flow. Then came fire and its vector, steam. Far from liberating us, the steam engine, oil, and "electricity" have made us "addicted" to cheap energy.
The oil crises only briefly cured us of our gluttony, and we quickly relapsed. Using the concept of energy slavery, everyone can gauge the extent of their addiction and the great difficulty of the path to sobriety. Are we ready to detox? Ready for sobriety?
Bring your bills (electricity, gas, fuel oil), or estimate your annual fuel consumption to measure your dependence.
