The conference "Are we all energy addicts? The hard road to sobriety," presented by Hervé Boileau, professor and researcher at the Laboratoire prOCédés énergIE bâtiment (LOCIE) – Polytech Annecy-Chambéry, will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the Presidency of the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, 27 rue Marcoz, 73000 Chambéry.
About the conference
For a long time, the source of energy was muscle power, either human or animal. Other forms of energy were then harnessed: wind and river flow. Then came fire and its vector, steam. Far from liberating us, the steam engine, oil, and "electricity" have made us "addicted" to cheap energy.
The oil crises only briefly cured us of our gluttony, and we quickly relapsed. Using the concept of energy slavery, everyone can gauge the extent of their addiction and the great difficulty of the path to sobriety. Are we ready to detox? Ready for sobriety?
Bring your bills (electricity, gas, fuel oil), or estimate your annual fuel consumption to measure your dependence.
