ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Public service, which plays a major role in French society, is constantly evolving. Whether we are employees of a private company or civil servants, changes in public service affect us all, since we are, above all, its users. Among these changes, one in particular raises the specter of the potential “death” of public service: privatization. At the heart of presidential campaigns,
political discourse, and even everyday conversations, privatization is a divisive issue. The purpose of this conference is to challenge common misconceptions about this phenomenon. The various conceptions of privatization reveal its real impacts on both the public service and the civil service. Comparisons are presented to analyze the results of privatization abroad and their potential application under French law. While privatization seems to herald the “death” of the French public service, what is the reality? Extinction or renewal?
