The lecture "Nonlinear optics: light becomes magical ," presented by Jean-Louis-COUTAZ, professor emeritus at the Centre for Radiofrequencies, Optics, and Micro-nanoelectronics of the Alps (CROMA), UFR Sciences et Montagne, will take place on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 6 p.m. at the presidency of the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, 27 rue Marcoz, 73000 Chambéry.
It will also be held:
- Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. in Archamps
- Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in Annecy
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The field of nonlinear optics covers all phenomena that occur when matter is illuminated with a very powerful light beam. For example, light changes color when passing through a perfectly transparent crystal.
Without getting bogged down in mathematical formalism, many amazing applications will be presented: the shortest controlled events (attosecond pulses) that humans are capable of producing, very high-speed fiber optic telecommunications, medical imaging, extreme microscopy, thermonuclear fusion, the creation of matter from light... but also, more prosaically, certain laser pointers that everyone can use on a daily basis.
