The lecture“Optimizing Sports Facilities: The Contributions of Biomechanics,” presented by Frédérique Hintzy, associate professor atthe Interuniversity Laboratory of Motor Biology(LIBM),Faculty of Sciences and Mountain Studies, will take place on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. at the USMB administration building in Chambéry.
It will also take place on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. in Annecy (La Turbine Sciences, Place Chorus, 74960 Cran-Gevrier).
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Athletic performance encompasses muscular, energetic, and psychological qualities, mastery of movement techniques, and the sports equipment used. Sports equipment plays an increasingly significant role in athletic performance, benefiting from scientific advances in various fields such as materials science, simulation, mathematical modeling, and, finally, biomechanics. Biomechanics helps us understand the mechanical and muscular properties of the human body, as well as its interactions with the environment in which it operates; there are numerous interactions between an athlete, their equipment, and the surrounding environment.
The contributions of biomechanics to the optimization of sports equipment are illustrated by alpine skiing, trail running, and cycling.
