The conference “ Ocean waves: hope for renewable energy or fear of rising sea levels? ” will be presented pby Christophe LACAVE & Walter BOSCHERI, faculty researchers, and Beatrice BATTISTI, postdoctoral researcher, all three at the Mathematics Laboratory (LAMA) of the Faculty of Science and Mountain Studies, at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, 27 rue Marcoz, 73000 Chambéry, as part of the 2024 Festival of Science on October 8 at 6 p.m.
This lecture will be preceded by the opening of the 2024–2025 season of Amphis Pour Tous, starting at 5:15 p.m. During this event, you can enjoy math-related activities led by members of the Mathematics Laboratory (LAMA). The season will then be officially launched by:
- Philippe Galez: President of the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB)
- Pascale Balland, and Lucie Lévêque: policy officer and project manager for science, technology, and industry at the USMB, respectively
This conference will also be held:
- Friday, October 4, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in Annemasse
- Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in Annecy
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The ocean, a vast, mysterious, and infinite expanse of water, has always held a profound fascination for the human mind. From the earliest daring sea voyages to contemporary explorations of the seafloor, a passion for the oceans has played a crucial role in the development of human society. While offshore renewable energy holds great promise for decarbonization, its impact on coastlines is also a cause for concern in the context of rising sea levels. Although the mathematical equations governing waves have been known since the 19th century, research is still underway to address these new challenges.
