The conference “ Ocean waves: hope for renewable energy or fear of rising sea levels? ” will be presented by Christophe LACAVE & Walter BOSCHERI, faculty researchers, and Beatrice BATTISTI, postdoctoral researcher, all three from the Mathematics Laboratory (LAMA) of the Faculty of Science and Mountain Studies, at La Turbine Sciences in Annecy (entrance via Le Cinéma la Turbine). as part of the 2024 Science Festival.
It will also be held:
- Friday, October 4, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in Annemasse
- Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. in Chambéry – Opening of the 2024–2025 season at 5:15 p.m.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The ocean, a vast, mysterious, and infinite expanse of water, has always held a profound fascination for the human mind. From the earliest daring sea voyages to contemporary explorations of the seafloor, a passion for the oceans has played a crucial role in the development of human society. While offshore renewable energy holds great promise for decarbonization, its impact on coastlines is also a cause for concern in the context of rising sea levels. Although the mathematical equations governing waves have been known since the 19th century, research is still underway to address these new challenges.
