about the film

The Ultima Patagonia expedition, which took place in 2017 in the northern part of Madre de Dios Island, located in southern Chile, enabled unprecedented geographical and scientific investigations in an unknown and hostile limestone island area of great beauty.  Led by a team of speleologists, archaeologists, biologists, hydrologists, anthropologists, botanists, and divers, this hydrographic and cartographic mission, which took two years to prepare, reveals a breathtaking piece of history.

This documentary won several awards this year, including Best Human Adventure Film at the La Ciotat International Scientific Exploration Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize at the What a Trip Festival in Montpellier, the Audience Award at the Explore Image Festival in Nice, and the Toison d'Or de l'Aventure in Dijon.

The film will be broadcast on Tuesday, December 19 at 8:50 p.m. on France5 in the "Science grand format" slot.
