The conference "Decorated Caves of Australia and America" organized by the Sciences-Actions association will take place on November 9, 2023, at 8 p.m. at the MJC in Cambéry.
ABOUT CAFÉ SCIENCE
The study of decorated caves and rock art sites highlights that they hold a special place in the territories of past Paleolithic societies, but also of early peoples who were still relatively new to cave art.
Through examples taken from different continents (Europe, Australia, North America, etc.), we are offered a journey through time, exploring societies and their geography. Beyond their artistic merit, these sites have a unique history of the relationships that these societies maintained with their environment, the underground world, the sacred, and others.
SPEAKER
- Jean-Jacques Delannoy: University professor at USMB. He works in archaeogeomorphology on decorated caves and rock art sites (Chauvet and Lascaux caves, Aboriginal sites in Australia and North America). He chairs the scientific councils of the Lascaux and Chauvet caves.
