Science Cafés 2024 2025

On Thursday, January 16, at 8 p.m. at the MJC in Chambéry, the scientific culture association Science Action is organizing a meeting on the theme "Electric mobility: the panacea?"

ABOUT THE MEETING

Every day in France, 181 million local trips are made by French people. This represents an average of 35 km per day, and 71% of these trips are made by car.
Legislation, notably the Mobility Orientation Law (LOM) which came into force on January 1, 2020, seeks to promote the transition to carbon-free travel. Electric modes of transport (cars, buses, bicycles, scooters, etc.) seem to fit into this sustainable mobility approach insofar as they contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, improving air quality, and reducing noise pollution.
Is the electric car THE essential solution? Do we need to rethink our relationship with mobility and therefore with cars? What place should we give to other modes of transport, particularly public transport? To answer all these questions, the Science Actions association will welcome several
speakers who are specialists in the subject to this coffee debate.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

  • Forget Marie, teacher-researcher at the Environments, Dynamics, and Territories of Mountain Areas (EDYTEM) at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (USNIA), a specialist in the social construction of resources (water, energy, minerals) and the materialities of environmental and energy transitions
  • Sébastien de Rivaz, engineer in energy economics and sustainable development.
  • Jérôme Petit, Inddigo consultant, regional mobility manager, national mobility management and planning manager
  • Andrea Rangel-Guevara, researcher in environmental economics, specialist in inequalities linked to energy transition and sustainable development

ABOUT SCIENCE CAFÉS

Science Cafés allow the general public to discuss a wide range of topics, often related to current events, with experts and researchers in a friendly atmosphere. They are organized by the Science-Actions association, in collaboration with the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, the city of Chambéry, the Astrée cinema, and the MJC youth center in Chambéry.

These evenings are organized around the principle of a debate, which is based on questions asked by the audience to the speakers. They are neither lectures nor conferences given by a speaker. They allow everyone to form their own opinion on often complex subjects for which there is no simple or single solution. They also provide an opportunity to learn more about the research being carried out locally in the Chambéry area and neighboring regions by researchers, engineers, and doctors who volunteer their time to participate in our evenings.

Once a quarter, Cafés Science takes the form of a movie screening called Ciné Science. In this case, the film is shown at the Astrée cinema at 8:30 p.m. It is followed by a discussion with two or three experts on the film's theme.
