TheOrchestre des Pays de Savoiereturns to the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) for a new season of "Campus en Musique."  On Thursday, February 8, a string sextet will perform the "Olympic Spring" concerton the Bourget-du-Lac campus, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., in the student lounge (EVE – building 6).

ABOUT THE CONCERT

This chamber music concert is dedicated to the themes of music, mountains, winter, and the Olympics on the occasion of the XXIIIWinter Olympics Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in February 2018. Apart from the anecdotal figure of cellist, mountaineer, and skier Maurice Baquet, a friend of photographer Robert Doisneau, classical music is rarely associated with the world of the Olympic Games. Through this chamber music program, the musicians offer an immersion in the Baroque theme ofthe Olympics, developed by the great poet Metastasio and treated by many composers. True to the cosmopolitan Olympic spirit, the program takes us to Korea with a melody inspired by the very places where the XXIII Olympiad will take place in 2018. This is followed by the theme of the mountains with a piece by Ernest Bloch, composed in Savoie, and a creation by Édouard Delale on the theme of Olympic disciplines. The rest of the concert features classical pieces by composers who were awarded prizes at the first Olympic Games and who wanted to give prominence to the arts – the best known of these winners being Josef Suk. This spring concert ends with one of the masterpieces written for this chamber music ensemble: JohannesBrahms' Second Sextet, composed in 1865.
