About Jean-Paul Boutellier

Jean-Paul Boutellier fell in love with jazz in the 1950s, discovering the music of big bands such as Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Then suddenly, he came across Charlie Parker! It was Bird who, on one of those moonless nights, left an indelible mark on the teenager's imagination. Even though he didn't play an instrument, Jean-Paul Boutellier immediately sensed that this music would accompany him throughout his life, eventually leading him to become the artistic director of the largest jazz festival in France and Europe: Jazz à Vienne. Jean-Paul Boutellier is also a lecturer. Having come to the University of Savoie Mont Blanc in 2016 to give an illustrated lecture on women in jazz, he returns to the USMB to give an illustrated lecture on jazz and cinema.
