The Antoine Favre Law Research Center at the Faculty of Law of the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, in partnership withthe University of Clermont Auvergne, is organizing a conference on the theme “Identity, Dignity, and Disability.”

It will take place fromThursday, March 26, to Friday, March 27, 2020, in the A. Decottignies Auditorium at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc’s main campus, located at 27 Rue Marcoz in Chambéry.

In conjunction with the conference, an exhibition by Manon Vichy and Accueil Savoie Handicap, as well as inclusive sports activities, will also be organized.

About the conference

The purpose of the conference is to assess the progress made or expected in terms of affirming or fully realizing the identity and dignity of people with disabilities. The aim is to analyze the tools, mechanisms, policies, and actions that enable everyone to take their place in society for granted, with the same expectations as an able-bodied person, and to address how society as a whole receives and perceives this inclusive evolution. Beyond the question of how to define disability, the issue of its representation arises: this was evident again in the recent Lambert case, particularly with the recommendation from the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

How, then, should we approach people who are, at first glance, in different situations? How can we recognize the dignity of a person with a disability? How do they perceive themselves, and what are the consequences of this? To address these questions, we will draw on a wide range of disciplines: law, sociology, psychology, as well as the perspectives of researchers, practitioners, and nonprofit leaders…
