November 29, 2018, 9:00 a.m. - November 30, 2018, 12:01 p.m.

The Languages, Literatures, Societies, Transborder and International Studies Laboratory (LLSETI) is organizing a conference on Thursday, November 29, and Friday, November 30, 2018, titled “The Savoie Region in the Great War: 1918, the Final Year of the War.” It will take place in the Decottignies Amphitheater at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, 27 rue Marcoz in Chambéry.

About the conference

The multi-year symposium series “The Savoy Region in the Great War” is drawing to a close. It will focus on the final year of the Great War. 1918 is seen as the year of victory and thus the end of the human and material sacrifices that had been made. But this year was also extremely difficult, and victory did not ultimately take shape until after the failures of the Ludendorff-Hindenburg offensives and the increasingly massive deployment of American soldiers. 1918 was also the year in which reflections on what the postwar period would look like deepened: in this respect, this pivotal year shaped the character of the postwar era.
