LLSETI Symposium: “FACES UNDER CONSTRAINTS”

October 17, 2017, 9:00 a.m. - October 18, 2017, 5:00 p.m.

The CIEREC laboratories and the Laboratory of Languages, Literatures, Societies, Cross-Border and International Studies (LLSETI) are organizing a new international conference titled “VISAGES À CONTRAINTES” on October 17 and 18, 2017 , atJean Monnet University in Saint-Étienne , focusing on current issues surrounding the face in the context of digital technologies.

This conference marks the first step in an agreement between the CIEREC laboratories (Jean Monnet University) and LLSETI (Savoie Mont-Blanc University).

A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

“Where there is a face, there is a questioning of power: ethical, political, aesthetic, technical, and media power (which may be all of these at once). It is therefore no surprise that the face is today the scene of so many conflicts, through which the eternal struggle between iconoclasm and iconodulia arises once again. The history of the face is that of the image and its capacity to disrupt reality and its representation. And the current history of its technical mediatization—whether in terms of its reproduction or its reception—compels us to reconsider its nature. This symposium therefore aims to examine the active role played by the technological field in the shift, or even the reinvention, of the classical portrait genre since the 1960s.” Vincent Ciciliato
