The Institute of Transitions at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, in partnership with Eurêka, the science center in the city of Chambéry, invites you to enjoy a rare experience at the intersection of science and art: Melt, listening to glaciers.

What if glaciers could talk to us?

On stage, ice takes on a voice. Thanks to sensors placed deep within the ice, the imperceptible movements of glaciers become audible: crackling, pulsing, seasonal tremors. A living mechanism is revealed, strangely organic, almost intimate. The show immerses us in this raw sound material, shaped by sound artists Pali Meursault and Thomas Tilly, who transform scientific data into a sensory immersion.

What if their creaks, their breaths, their drips became a story—that of a world in transformation?

Experts warn about glaciers

Melt, listening to glaciers is also an encounter. An encounter with a committed scientific community that observes, measures, analyzes, and alerts. Alongside Lucas Davaze, PhD in glaciology and climatology, Antoine Rabatel, professor at the Institute of Environmental Geosciences (IGE – Grenoble Alpes University), and Philip Deline, senior lecturer at the Environments, Dynamics and Mountain Territories Laboratory (EDYTEM – Savoie Mont Blanc University), glaciers become a place for listening and reflection.

How can we understand their accelerated melting?

How can we reframe our questions in the face of climate change?

The voices of glaciologists Antoine Rabatel, Bruno Jourdain, Delphine Six, Émilie Capron, Fanny Brun, Florent Gimbert, Joël Savarino, and Roberto Grilli are also heard in this hybrid creation, where scientific rigor dialogues with artistic emotion.

A meaningful experience to listen to a cause

This show does more than just inform: it invites you to feel. To slow down. To pay attention. To perceive, behind the figures and curves, the fragile breath of a changing world.

To come and listen to the glaciers is to accept to let yourself be transported.

It is experiencing another way of understanding—through the ear, through the body, through emotion.
