January 17, 2020, 2:00 p.m. - January 17, 2020, 5:00 p.m.

On January 17, 2020, the Languages, Literatures, Societies, Cross-Border and International Studies Laboratory (LLSETI, research team 3.1) will welcome Emilie LEBRETON, senior lecturer atthe University of Aix-Marseille, for a lecture entitled "The acquisition of French by adult migrants: mechanisms, challenges, and prospects for research and training" as part of the seminar "Migration and languages of host countries: teaching, learning, acquiring."

The session will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the Jacob-Bellecombette campus, in room 102 of building 1.

About the seminar

The field of language training for adult migrants is affected by political, social, and economic issues that influence both the implementation of training programs and the concept of language acquisition. Drawing on various research experiences conducted with migrants and language training professionals—including volunteers—the seminar will encourage reflection on the possibility of taking a step back to consider language acquisition by these so-called "specific" groups (Lebreton 2017). In addition to questioning language as a "convenient alibi" (Hambye, Romanville, 2014), the seminar will address the diversification of programs, their challenges, and the questions they raise for migrants, professionals, and language teaching researchers and teachers (DDL).
