As part of the 2019 Science Festival and the 20th anniversary of the Alpine Center for Research on Trophic Networks in Limnic Ecosystems (CARRTEL), Michel Meybeck will host a conference on "Lakes, curses, miracles, and exceptional gas emissions." It will take place on Monday, October 14, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the Decottignies amphitheater at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, located at 27 rue Marcoz in Chambéry.

The conference will also be held on Friday, October 11, 2019, from 6:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. at La Visitation (media library) in Thonon-les-Bains (2 place du marché).

About the speaker Michel Meybeck

Michel Meybeck, emeritus research director at the CNRS (UMR METIS, Sorbonne University), studied the chemical composition of rivers on a local (Seine) and global scale. Initially a limnologist (co-editor of Limnologie générale, 1995, with R. Pourriot), he studied Lake Pavin, which he has known since childhood, at the ENS geology laboratory from 1969 to 1985, and participated in the assessment of its degassing risks (Camus et al. 1993, Bull. Soc. Géol. France, t.164). In 2009, he discovered new hypotheses about catastrophic past overflows at Pavin and certain ancient "legends," which sparked heated controversy among researchers, prompting him to start the story from scratch.
