about
At the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières, as part of the course "Intervention with Students with Learning Disabilities" (offered in education programs), Paul Gaudet teaches future teachers how to intervene pedagogically with students with intellectual disabilities. To do so, he uses an approach that integrates these students into his classroom. Paul Gaudet has been a pioneer and is still one of the few university teachers in Canada to include students with intellectual disabilities in a regular university classroom setting, and has been doing so for more than 15 years.
This presentation will cover the following topics:
- the beneficial effects of this inclusion;
- the difficulties encountered;
- collaboration with partners;
- the course curriculum and the associated teaching method.
Paul Gaudet specializes in adapted teaching methods for students with disabilities. He has been teaching in the Department of Education since 1994, but has also taught psychology, psychoeducation, engineering, and communication.
