The University of Savoie Mont Blanc, the University of Grenoble Alpes, the Environments, Dynamics, and Mountain Territories Laboratory (EDYTEM), the French Embassy in Japan, the Okayama University Executive Research Organization (URA), the Normec-Abiolab laboratory, and the ASPOSAN association are organizing a conference entitled "Innovative Strategies and Modeling Techniques for Contaminated Agricultural Aquatic Environments and Their Impacts on Human Health" on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. This conference will take place at the Grenoble Faculty of Medicine, in the Jean Roget building, inthe lower north amphitheater. This conference will be given in English.
Speaker
This lecture will be presented by Mr. Hiroaki Somura, Associate Professor at Okayama University. Hiroaki Somura, Associate Professor at Okayama University since 2018, specializes in hydrology, water quality, and watershed management. His expertise focuses on monitoring and modeling the aquatic environment. For many years, he has welcomed international students, particularly from Asia, Africa, and more recently France, as part of the international research internship program. In 2023-2024, his group welcomed one Thai student and four European students, mainly from France. He also participated in an ERASMUS mobility program in 2023 at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc as part of the KA171 program, and in June 2024, he participated in the USMB's SMILE ERASMUS program.
About the conference
The impact of poor agricultural management on environmental degradation and human health risks is illustrated by examples from Japan and Southeast Asia. Innovative remediation strategies have been implemented to mitigate these impacts. The means by which these procedures and techniques could be transposed and implemented in other countries are discussed. In particular, they show that a certain standardization of tools would help to achieve UN SDG #6 (Sustainable Development Goals: a program designed by UNESCO in 2015, in which Japan is heavily involved), relating to water supply and sanitation.
