Conference on management in public authorities

March 8, 2024, 3:00 p.m.

On Friday, March 8, 2024, at 3 p.m., Valérie Bouvier, General Manager of Services at the Haute-Savoie Management Center, will give a lecture on the topic of "Management in public authorities— history, evolution, and what it says about our society."

This type of management is undergoing significant change in the context of profound transformations: ecological, demographic, digital, economic, political, etc. This conference will shed light on managerial practices that have been tested and adapted to the new aspirations of public servants.

Summary

This is not a user manual with ready-made recipes, but rather a reflection inspired by management theory and history. Management is a matter of circumstance and culture; it reflects the era in which we live and is a consequence of our lifestyle. To navigate the complexity of human organizations, to understand ourselves and others, we need to draw on complementary methods and disciplines. Managers can draw on insights from neuroscience, sociology, philosophy, and psychology to act more effectively without trying to do everything themselves. To do this, managers must be guided by the values of prudence and humility.
