Conferences on comparative politics – "Being a member of parliament under the Fifth Republic: a profession?"

February 7, 2019, 1:30 p.m. - February 7, 2019, 3:30 p.m.

This year, the University of Savoie Mont Blanc and its Faculty of Law are hosting the eighth cycle of "Comparative Political Life Conferences," featuring witnesses and researchers in the social sciences and humanities (sociology, philosophy, history) whose work sheds light on major contemporary socio-political issues. For the first time, three meetings will be organized as part of student initiatives, set up and led by students.

The first lecture in the series will take place on Thursday, February 7, 2019, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., in Lecture Hall 3 on the Jacob-Bellecombette campus. Virginie Duby-Muller, representative for the 4th district of Haute-Savoie, will be present to share her experiences and thoughts on the topic: "Being a deputy in the Fifth Republic: a profession?"

She will discuss her career, her role, and her feelings about current developments specific to her mandate, particularly as a woman in the House. More broadly, the aim of the meeting will be to examine the changing nature of the "job of deputy" and to consider whether political life and the roles associated with it are now becoming, beyond a personal vocation, a profession in their own right.
