Lectures on Comparative Politics – “Forced Labor and Labor Mobilization in Senegal”

March 7, 2019, 1:30 p.m. - March 7, 2019, 3:30 p.m.

This year, the University of Savoie Mont Blanc and its Faculty of Law are hosting the eighth cycle of "Comparative Political Life Conferences," featuring witnesses and researchers in the social sciences and humanities (sociology, philosophy, history) whose work sheds light on major contemporary socio-political issues. For the first time, three meetings will be organized as part of student initiatives, set up and led by students.

The third lecture in the series will take place on Thursday, March 7, 2019 , from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Lecture Hall 3 on the Jacob-Bellecombette campus, featuring Romain Tiquet, on the topic “Forced Labor and Labor Mobilization in Senegal.”

Romain Tiquet, who holds a Ph.D. in African history from Humboldt University of Berlin and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Geneva, specializes in issues of law enforcement and the mobilization of labor in the Francophone African context. His work addresses both the history of decolonization and the early years following independence, drawing on a variety of sources, methodologies, and research techniques, including legal comparativism and field interviews. He has kindly agreed to join us for an exclusive preview of his book *Forced Labor and Labor Mobilization in Senegal (1920s–1960s)*, which will be officially published on March 7, 2019, by PUR.
