TheFaculty of Arts, Languages, and Humanities at the University of Monsey is organizing a new series of lectures entitled "Democracy in Question." At a time when democracy has regained a central place in public debate, both as a result of challenges to its principles and practical experiments that seek to transcend it, it seems appropriate to open up a space for discussion on this theme, which has become as essential as it is difficult to grasp. The aim of this series is to bring together leading voices and up-and-coming intellectuals to examine the meaning, status, and content of a term whose extensive use has ultimately obscured its depth.
For this first meeting, which will take place onWednesday, October 11, 2017, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the USMB Presidency, the guest will be Marcel Gauchet, philosopher and historian, director of studies emeritus at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), member of the Raymond Aron Center for Sociological and Political Studies (CESPRA), editor-in-chief of the journal "Le Débat," and author of numerous books. he has just completed his reflections on the advent of democracy with the publication this year of "Le nouveau monde" (The New World).
