HOW DOES IT WORK?

Blood donation allows all blood components—red blood cells, plasma, and platelets—to be collected at the same time, in just 10 minutes; these components are then separated after the donation.

Before donating: Take our online self-assessment!
Quick and easy, this test lets you check in less than 5 minutesbefore your appointment to make sure you have no medical conditions that would prevent you from donating blood.

Be sure to eat a good breakfast or a balanced lunch before you come. Stay hydrated: drink water or fruit juice before, during, and after your donation. Avoid alcoholic beverages in the hours leading up to your donation.

Donation Day
Upon your arrival, the EFS team will welcome you and verify your identity. You will then be given the pre-donation questionnaire. Please complete it before your medical consultation, which lasts about 5 minutes. This private discussion is confidential and allows the EFS to ensure your safety and that of the people who will receive the blood products derived from your donation.

Blood donation takes place while you are lying down and under medical supervision. The amount of blood drawn is tailored to each individual; it therefore ranges from 420 to 480 ml, depending on the donor’s weight and height.
To get off to a good start, take the time to enjoy a snack with other donors and volunteers and relax under the watchful eye of the medical team. Although blood volume is quickly replenished after a donation, avoid strenuous physical activity in the hours following the donation.

WHY DONATE?

Every day, we need blood to help a woman giving birth, a victim of a traffic accident, a cancer patient… These situations are as varied as they are common. The voluntary act of donating blood is therefore irreplaceable. You are irreplaceable! Thanks to donations, people in need receive treatment directly through blood transfusions or indirectly through the use of medications derived from donated plasma.
