“More Equality” Festival – [CANCELED] Meeting with author Olivia Elkaim

March 8, 2018, 12:00 p.m. - March 8, 2018, 2:00 p.m.

From March 8 to April 5, the "Plus d'égalité" (More Equality) Festival will take place on the campuses of the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) and at partner venues. The goal of the various events at this festival is to take the time to ask questions, accept confrontation, imagine solutions, and above all, reflect and debate together on issues of equality. USMB offers conferences, round tables, and meetings with artists and specialists who will question our representations of the relationship between women and men.

On Thursday, March 8, at 12 p.m.,Olivia Elkaim will meet with USMB students to discussher novel, Je suis une Jeanne Hébuterne (I Am Jeanne Hébuterne), in which the author gives voice to Modigliani's last love. The meeting will take place in Lecture Hall 11000 on the Chambéry/Jacob-Bellecombette campus. Admission is free.

the novel "I Am Jeanne Hébuterne"

While everyone knows Amedeo Modigliani, who really knows Jeanne Hébuterne, his last companion? She was the master's model and an artist in her own right. A few photos of her remain, as well as some of her works (which cannot be found because they are held by her family), but the story of Jeanne Hébuterne has been overshadowed by the famous Italian artist. Olivia Elkaim, with great finesse and talent, has managed to restore the woman, the artist, and the lover that she was.

Jeanne Hébuterne was a young girl when, in 1916, she met Amedeo Modigliani. Fifteen years her senior, he was a "cursed" artist, living in poverty in Montparnasse. She wanted to break free from her parents and brother and become a painter herself. They fell madly in love. From Paris to Nice—where they fled the fighting of World War I—they defied social norms and family prohibitions. But their incandescent love drove them to the brink of madness.
