WHAT IS THE RESERVE?
Established in 2016, the National Guard now has nearly 77,000 reservists who carry out missions to protect the French people.
You can join the National Guard as a reservist, regardless of your educational background, level of education, or degree.
The duties are very varied: depending on the branch you join, they may include greeting the public, assisting with administrative tasks, patrolling, conducting inspections, securing sites, carrying out preventive measures, or providing information to the public.
All those wishing to join the National Guard undergo initial training. This training is the same for all reservists, regardless of the unit you join.
The training lasts about two weeks and provides an introduction to military life, first aid, close-quarters combat techniques (TIOR), weapons handling and marksmanship, etc.
On average, reservists carry out missions and make themselves available for about thirty days a year. Reservists are paid (tax-free) according to their rank.
Within the Departmental Fire and Rescue Services, volunteer firefighters account for 78% of all firefighters in France.
They may perform operational duties in one or more of the following areas: emergency response and medical care, firefighting, or the protection of people, property, and the environment.
Just like National Guard reservists, you will receive ongoing training throughout your career so that you can respond to various types of incidents.
