Reading Night is coming to the USMB library!

January 16, 2020, 6:00 p.m. - January 16, 2020, 9:00 p.m.

As part of the fourth edition of Reading Night, the university library (BU) of the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) in Bourget-du-Lac is hosting an evening event centered around the exhibition on the French Southern and Antarctic Lands (on display at the library since November 8, 2019).

This exhibition, organized by Galerie Eurêka in 2016, was set up in connection with the scientific mission of four members of the USMB's Environnements DYnamiques Territoires de la Montagne (EDYTEM) laboratory who traveled to Kerguelen last November. This collaboration between the laboratory, the university library, and students perfectly echoes the theme of this 4th edition of the Night of Reading: sharing, sharing knowledge to offer you a convivial and festive evening!

See you on Thursday, January 16, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the following program:

  • “Our territories at the end of the world, encounters and exchanges on the French Southern Territories”: encounters and exchanges around the exhibition on the TAAF with Patrick Haon, former district chief of Crozet and Kerguelen.
  • “Investigation in Kerguelen”: come and take part in a real-life investigation with the student association TRUC. Lire vouchers are up for grabs!

About the exhibition "Destination Extreme Lands, French Southern and Antarctic Lands"

From November 8, 2019, to January 6, 2020, four members of the EDYTEM laboratory went on a scientific mission to Kerguelen, in the French Southern and Antarctic Lands, to work on climate variations, among other things. To mark the occasion, EDYTEM and the Bourget-du-Lac University Library are offering visitors the chance to discover these remote lands through the exhibition "Destination Terres Extrêmes, Terres Australes et Antarctiques Françaises" (Destination Extreme Lands, French Southern and Antarctic Lands), designed by Galerie Eurêka in 2016. This is an opportunity to discover these small pieces of France scattered across the southern hemisphere, whose remoteness and harsh climatic conditions have preserved exceptional ecosystems. Stop off at each of the five districts that make up these extreme territories to discover their ecological and scientific interests, as well as the women and men who work at these bases on the other side of the world. The exhibition is on display until March 6, 2020, at the Bourget-du-Lac University Library.
