About the Lunch Seminar
At a time when mountaineering is often highlighted by the media only from the perspective of tragedy or achievement, as Alain Ghersen says, "risk is omnipresent in mountaineering; whether we deny it or glorify it, it raises questions."
Author of numerous solo exploits in the Mont Blanc massif in the 1980s and 1990s, Alain Ghersen published the essay "Risk and Mountaineering - Philosophical Reflections on Homo alpinus" in 2016 . From the dual perspective of mountaineer and philosopher, he analyzes the links between risk and mountaineering. He asks, "What does this figure of Homo alpinus tell us about modern man as a being who seeks to forge a unique path between and with the constraints that make up his environment?"
