As part of LAPP Wednesdays, the Annecy Laboratory of Particle Physics (LAPP) is organizing a conference entitled"Understanding Light," which will take place on November 6, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the LAPP premises on the Annecy campus. This conference will be presented by Iro Koletsou, a teacher-researcher at LAPP. It will be possible to visit the laboratory before the conference, starting at 5 p.m., for exclusive discussions with the scientists.
About the conference-debate
On a balmy night in Tuscany, two men walk together in the dark, lighting their way with lanterns. One of these men is Galileo; he is about to take the first measurement of the speed of light. At the time, he probably did not know that he was taking one of the first steps toward an adventure that would last for centuries, leading scientists and humanity as a whole to encounter surprises, wonders, and upheavals, and forever changing the way we see the world.
During this conference, we will discuss past experiences, both physical and mental, that were motivated by our desire to understand the nature of light, as well as their sometimes surprising interpretations. We will explain in broad terms what light is, what the different colors correspond to, and everything we can encounter outside the visible spectrum.
About LAPP Wednesdays
In 2024-2025, following the success of previous events, LAPP is organizing free monthly events: LAPP Wednesdays.
One Wednesday per month, scientists at LAPP invite you to discover a different aspect of research during a free event that is open to all. Lectures, tours, discussions, workshops... A range of formats accessible to all audiences will be offered throughout the year.
