As part of the LAPP and LAPTh Wednesdays series, the Annecy Laboratory of Particle Physics (LAPP) and the Annecy-le-Vieux Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (LAPTh) are organizing a conference entitled "Discovering Dark Matter," which will take place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the LAPP premises on the Annecy campus.
This lecture will be presented by Francesca Calore, a researcher at LAPTh. It will be possible to visit the laboratory before the lecture, starting at 5 p.m., for exclusive discussions with the scientists.
About the conference
The nature of dark matter is one of the great mysteries of contemporary physics. Dark matter exists, but what is its fundamental nature? The particles it is thought to be made of are capable of producing photons and high-energy charged particles at rates detectable by current telescopes. Using indirect research methods, scientists hope to detect traces of dark matter in data collected by powerful telescopes in space and on Earth. The discovery of such a signal would make it possible to study the properties of the particles that make up dark matter for the first time. How are scientists trying to uncover dark matter in the universe? What are the current results and challenges for the future?
About LAPP and LAPTh Wednesdays
In 2024-2025, following the success of previous events, LAPP is organizing free monthly events: LAPP and LAPTh Wednesdays.
One Wednesday per month, scientists at LAPP invite you to discover a different aspect of research during a free event that is open to all. Lectures, tours, discussions, workshops... A range of formats accessible to all audiences will be offered throughout the year.
