As part of the LAPP and LAPTh Wednesdays series, the Annecy Laboratory of Particle Physics (LAPP) and the Annecy-le-Vieux Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (LAPTh) are organizing a lecture titled “How to Detect Neutrinos in a Gold Mine Using Liquid Argon?” which will take place on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the LAPP facilities on the Annecy campus.
This lecture will be presented by Laura Zambelli, a researcher atLAPP. Visitors will be able to tour the laboratory before the lecture, starting at 5:00 p.m., for an opportunity to speak with the scientists.
About the conference
Have you always dreamed of exploring the most fundamental laws of the universe? Are you fascinated by neutrinos, those elusive particles that constantly pass through us?
Good news: with just a gold mine, a cryostat, and a few tons of liquid argon, you can build a machine capable of detecting a rare phenomenon: the interaction of a neutrino with matter!
In this presentation, we’ll explore together why we need to go underground, how liquid argon allows us to study neutrinos with precision, and finally, how to build a neutrino detector step by step!
About LAPP and LAPTh Wednesdays
Since 2024, LAPP and LAPTh have been hosting free monthly events: LAPP and LAPTh Wednesdays.
One Wednesday per month, scientists from LAPP and LAPTh invite you to discover a different facet of research during a free event open to all. Lectures, tours, discussions, workshops... Several formats accessible to all audiences will be offered throughout the year.
