As part of the LAPP and LAPTh Wednesdays series, the Annecy Laboratory of Particle Physics (LAPP) and the Annecy-le-Vieux Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (LAPTh) are organizing a lecture titled “How Does Artificial Intelligence Help Detect Gamma Rays Coming from the Edge of the Universe?” which will take place on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the LAPP facilities on the Annecy campus.
This lecture will be presented by Sami Caroff, a researcher at LAPP, and Thomas Vuillaume, a data scientist at LAPP. Visitors will be able to tour the laboratory before the lecture, starting at 5:00 p.m., for an opportunity to speak with the scientists.
About the conference
In this joint presentation, the two scientists will explore gamma-ray astronomy, its major challenges, and its key role in advancing our understanding of the universe and its fundamental laws. They will explain how Cherenkov imaging telescopes work and highlight the essential role of artificial intelligence, which is central to optimizing their performance.
About LAPP and LAPTh Wednesdays
In 2024-2025, following the success of previous events, LAPP is organizing free monthly events: LAPP and LAPTh Wednesdays.
One Wednesday per month, scientists at LAPP invite you to discover a different aspect of research during a free event that is open to all. Lectures, tours, discussions, workshops... A range of formats accessible to all audiences will be offered throughout the year.
