The Languages, Literature, Societies, Cross-Border and International Studies (LLSETI) at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB), in collaboration with the Migrant'scène festival, is organizing a conference entitled "Teaching French to migrants and immigrants in France: analysis of a public policy," led by Maude Vadot, lecturer in language sciences and language teaching at the LLSETI laboratory at USMB.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Since 2007, French language skills have increasingly determined the right to residence: compulsory French language courses, required level for a residence permit or citizenship. However, 52% of immigrants whose first language is not French still have great difficulty with written French. The conference will critically analyze the principles underlying this immigration language policy, its limitations and blind spots, and will report on proposals made by people learning French.
