The Laboratoire Langages, Littératures, Sociétés, Etudes Transfrontalières et Internationales (LLSETI) of theuniversité Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB), in collaboration with the Migrant'scène festival, is organizing a conference entitled "L'enseignement du français aux personnes migrantes et immigrés en France: analyse d'une politique publique" (Teaching French to migrants and immigrants in France: analysis of a public policy), led by Maude Vadot, lecturer in language sciences and language didactics at the USMB's LLSETI laboratory.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
Since 2007, French language skills have increasingly become a prerequisite for residency: the obligation to take French courses, the level required for residency or nationality. Yet 52% of immigrants who do not speak French as their first language still have great difficulty writing. The conference will critically analyze the principles underpinning this immigration language policy, its limitations and blind spots, and report on proposals put forward by people learning French.
