Antimatter Night 2019

April 1, 2019, 5:45 p.m. - April 1, 2019, 10:30 p.m.

The French Physical Society (SFP) and the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) are jointly organizing “Antimatter Night.”

To mark the occasion, the Annecy-le-Vieux Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (LAPTh) and the Annecy Laboratory of Particle Physics (LAPP) are hosting an event at the Marcel Vivargent Auditorium on the Annecy campus. The event will take place on April 1, 2019, from 5:45 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

This festive evening aims to educate the general public and school students about all aspects of antimatter, which is both the focus of extensive research and the basis for many applications, including in everyday life. This event is part of the CNRS’s 80th anniversary celebrations!

About ten interconnected venues across France will make it possible for as many people as possible to participate (the list will be announced at a later date). Virtual tours, panel discussions, quizzes, etc.

The evening will feature a lecture and discussion at each venue, tours of iconic sites related to antimatter research or its applications, a quiz, and a panel discussion on the theme of “science and science fiction.” The winners of the contests will also be announced. The Night of Antimatter will be streamed via webcast and Facebook Live.
