Information Night 2018

December 6, 2018, 4:39 p.m. - December 7, 2018, 8:05 a.m.

As they do every year, students from the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) are participating in the Nuit de l’Info. Organized locally bythe EISPRI-STIC association—comprising current and former undergraduate and graduate students in Computer Science fromthe Faculty of Sciences and Mountain Studies, with the support of the faculty—this national event allows students to compete each year against more than 3,000 other students from computer science programs across France. With several medals already under their belts, the students—bringing together nearly a hundred students from the Bachelor’s and Master’s in Computer Science programs at the UFR SceM and the IUTs in Annecy (Computer Science department) and Chambéry (MMI department) at the Bourget-du-Lac science campus—are determined to secure another podium finish this year!

"Info Night in Savoie" will take place on the Bourget-du-Lac campus, starting at 4:39 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, and running until 8:05 a.m. the following morning.

the night in a few words

The principle is very simple:

  • A topic (the same for all of France) is developed by the partner companies of La Nuit de l'Info.
    • The partners also set challenges, which are rewarded with bonuses (gift vouchers, etc.).
  • On Thursday, December 6, at sunset, 4:39 p.m., during the plenary session:
    • The topic is revealed and distributed to the participants by the organizers (the Guardians of the Night)
    • Students organize themselves into teams (at one or more locations): equipped with high-tech resources (computers, internet connections, videoconferencing, etc.), the teams work through the night on a project (IT, marketing, editorial, etc.) in a friendly and festive atmosphere (entertainment, music, meals, etc.)
    • As part of the theme, teams may take on one or more challenges proposed by partners, with a particular focus on a specific topic within the theme (for example: accessibility for people with disabilities, the use of a particular product or technology, etc.).
  • On Friday, December 7, at sunrise, 8: 05 a.m., the situation remains unchanged.
    • The students (and the dedicated faculty members who spent the night with them) are going to get some rest.
  • On Friday morning, while the students are still asleep:
    • The judging panels will meet at the various locations (one panel per challenge) and evaluate the projects and presentations submitted by the different teams in order to select the winners, who will receive awards.
