News Night 2019

December 5, 2019, 4:39 p.m. - December 6, 2019, 8:03 a.m.

"Info Night in Savoie" will take place on the Bourget-du-Lac campus, starting at 4:39 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, and running until 8:03 a.m. the following morning.

Every year, this national event gives students at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB) the opportunity to compete against more than 3,000 other students from computer science programs across France. Organized locally by the Computer Science Department ofthe UFR Sciences et Montagne with the support of the faculty andthe EISPRI-STIC association, the Nuit de l’Info brings together nearly a hundred students on the Bourget-du-Lac campus from the bachelor’s and master’s programs in Computer Science atthe UFR Sciences et Montagne, as well as from the IUTs in Annecy (Computer Science Department) and Chambéry (Multimedia and Internet Professions Department).

With several medals already under their belts, the students are determined to secure another podium finish this year!

the night in a few words

The principle is very simple:

  • A topic (the same for all of France) is developed by the partner companies of La Nuit de l'Info.
    • The partners also set challenges, which are rewarded with bonuses (gift vouchers, etc.).
  • On Thursday, December 5, at sunset, 4:39 p.m., during the plenary session:
    • The topic is revealed and distributed to the participants by the organizers (the Guardians of the Night)
    • Students organize themselves into teams (at one or more locations): equipped with high-tech resources (computers, internet connections, videoconferencing, etc.), the teams work through the night on a project (IT, marketing, editorial, etc.) in a friendly and festive atmosphere (entertainment, music, meals, etc.)
    • As part of the theme, teams may take on one or more challenges proposed by partners, with a particular focus on a specific topic within the theme (for example: accessibility for people with disabilities, the use of a particular product or technology, etc.).
  • On Friday, December 6, at sunrise, 8:03 a.m., the developments are frozen.
    • The students (and the dedicated faculty members who spent the night with them) are going to get some rest.
  • On Friday morning, while the students are still asleep:
    • The judging panels will meet at the various locations (one panel per challenge) and evaluate the projects and presentations submitted by the different teams in order to select the winners, who will receive awards.
