On March 28 and 30, 2018, at 8:00 p.m., the USMB’s Perspectives Théâtrales invites you to discover or rediscover the opera*La Traviata – You Deserve a Better Future*at the Théâtre Charles Dullin in Chambéry.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Based on Giuseppe Verdi’s *La Traviata*
La Traviata is a musical and fantastical celebration that blends theater and opera, spoken and sung voices, literary excerpts, and archival documents. It is also an exploration of the courtesan who, after inspiring Dumas fils to write his novel *The Lady of the Camellias*, which he later adapted for the stage, became Violetta, the heroine of one of Verdi’s most famous operas. We encounter her, more mysterious and touching than ever, in this production directed by Benjamin Lazar, where her role is portrayed by the dazzling soprano Judith Chemla. A world away from the pomp of grand romantic opera, Traviata maintains a delightful intimacy with the audience.

ABOUT THE 2018 JACES AT USMB
The Arts and Culture Days in Higher Education, a showcase for the cultural and artistic initiatives carried out at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB), are intended to be a unique occasion for sharing and connecting among members of the university community across the three campuses, as well as for building ties between the USMB campuses, the Grenoble Alpes campus, and the general public. The rich and packed program of the 4th edition is clear proof of the artistic potential of USMB students. These days are intended as a genuine opportunity to introduce as many people as possible to the diversity and quality of artistic productions developed within academic programs and offered by USMB student associations. The Culture Department, responsible for organizing this event, extends its heartfelt thanks to the cultural student associations for their dynamism and commitment, to all the students who have gotten involved, to the faculty members in charge of academic projects, to the artists and local partners who support us, to the MMI and GACO departments at the IUT de Chambéry, the Annecy IUT, and GUIDE for their organizational support.
THEATRICAL OUTLOOK
Launched in October 2000 as part of a cultural partnership between the USMB and the Espace Malraux Scène nationale, the Perspectives Théâtrales program bridges the gap between the academic study of dramatic works and the practice of theater. More specifically, the goal is to encourage students to reflect on theatrical texts based on their specific purpose: the stage.
